Linn County Sheriff’s Office Log: Feb. 1 – 7

Feb. 1

Burglary, 9:41 a.m., N First Avenue, Mill City. Caller reported two-week old burglary and theft of power tools from a job site. Estimated loss $5,000. Under investigation.

Dog Complaint, 10 a.m., SW Douglas Street, Mill City. Dog owner issued a written warning for dog as a public nuisance for barking and failure to license.

Theft, 12:05 p.m., Ash Street, Lyons. Tan-color 9mm Taurus G2 with one 13-round magazine stolen from unlocked motor vehicle. Value $250. Under investigation.

Dog Complaint, 1:14 p.m., Cole School Road, Scio. Dog owner warned for failure to license.

Fraud, 1:44 p.m., Sixth Street, Lyons. Caller received a fraudulent call from people claiming to be with US Customs.

Suspicious Person, 1:44 p.m., SW Broadway Street/SW Third Avenue, Mill City. Deputy located male and offered ride somewhere else. Male advised he was waiting for the bus. Male was warned for trespassing after the caller advised he was seen looking into their windows.

Extra Patrol, 7:03 p.m., SW Linn Blvd., Mill City. Extra patrol at Trio Tavern.

Extra Patrol, 8:43 p.m., SW Broadway Street, Mill City. No egregious violations observed.

Domestic Disturbance, 11:29 p.m., Highway 226, Scio. Non-criminal domestic disturbance.

Feb. 2

Suspicious Vehicle, 2:24 a.m., Jefferson-Scio and Shelburn drives, Scio. Listed subjects asked to move along as they were trespassing in a farm field.

Extra Patrol, 9:36 a.m., Kingwood Avenue, Mill City.

Extra Patrol, 10:49 a.m., Main Street, Lyons.

Traffic Stop, 11:05 a.m., Main Street, Lyons. Driver warned for speed.

Traffic Stop, 12:24 p.m., S First Avenue, Mill City. Driver warned for expired vehicle registration.

Traffic Stop, 12:53 p.m., S First Avenue, Mill City. Male, 57, of Mill City arrested on two outstanding warrants. Male was also cited for driving while suspended and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Traffic Stop, 1:45 p.m., S First Avenue, Mill City. Driver cited for driving while suspended, failure to carry proof of insurance and illegal alteration of a license plate.

Traffic Complaint, 2 p.m., Shelburn Drive/Stayton-Scio Road, Scio. Deputies were unable to locate vehicle.

Traffic Stop, 4:30 p.m., SE Fairview Street, Mill City. Driver warned for speed.

Traffic Stop, 4:38 p.m., SE Fairview Street, Mill City. Driver cited for speed.

Disturbance, 7:29 p.m., SE Fairview Street, Mill City. Domestic disturbance between parents and juvenile. Parties were separated. Ongoing investigation.

Feb. 3

Extra Patrol, 2:23 a.m., NE Wall Street, Mill City. Deputy patrolled the bridge and Wall Street at night.

Abandoned Vehicle, 2:44 a.m.,
Lyons-Mill City Drive, Mill City.

Illegal Camping, 1:24 p.m., Hess Road, Scio. Day use area complaint. Deputies arrived to find the issue resolved.

Traffic Stop, 3:44 p.m., S First Avenue, Mill City. Driver warned for speed.

Trespass, 7:27 p.m., Lyons-Mill City Drive, Lyons. Caller reported seeing lights and shadows inside a vacant house. House was found secure and empty.

Civil Dispute, 8:10 p.m., SW Greenwood Place, Mill City. Dispute over child custody. Parties were directed to the court for a ruling.

Security Check, 9:43 p.m., Main Street, Lyons. Bar check at Red Barn. 

Disturbance, 10:20 p.m., Main Street, Lyons. Physical fight at the bar between two patrons. They were long-time friends who decided not to press charges.

Feb. 4

Suspicious Circumstance, 1:11 a.m., Fish Hatchery Drive, Scio. Caller reported she heard a noise and thought someone slammed her front door. Deputy checked all doors and windows; all were locked. 

Extra Patrol, 5:17 a.m., Highway 226, Scio. Observed traffic at Richardson Gap and Highway 226. No stop sign violations.

Traffic Stop, 10:09 a.m., Gilkey Road/Highway 226, Scio. Driver warned for moving violation.

Security Check, 10:13 a.m., Highway 226, Scio. Security check/alarm call at residence. All appeared well.

Narcotics Offense, 10:50 a.m., NE Seventh Avenue, Mill City. Caller reported someone possibly leaving narcotics in an RV he allowed them to live in summer 2020. Deputy responded and seized items. Items were lodged into evidence and investigation is ongoing.

Hit and Run, 12:50 p.m., Dogwood Street, Lyons. Deputy contacted the caller and advised it was no longer a hit and run, and the two drivers had worked it out.

Runaway, 1:22 p.m., NW Alder Street, Mill City. At end of the investigation, juvenile returned home.

Dog Complaint, 2:18 p.m., Richardson Gap Road/Ridge Drive, Scio. Report of dog running loose. Dog was returned home to owner. Owner warned for dog at large.

Accident, 5:44 p.m., Stayton-Scio Road, Scio. Motorhome in the ditch. No damage.

Suspicious Circumstance, 8:32 p.m., Cedar Street, Lyons. Resident on his own property, intoxicated, enjoying the night.

Suspicious Vehicle, 9:26 p.m., S First Avenue, Mill City. Two individuals were resting before making the rest of the trek home after finding out local campgrounds were closed.

Feb. 5

Dog Complaint, 9:56 a.m., SE Sixth Avenue, Mill City. Neighbors’ dispute over dogs. Dogs in question have food, water, shelter.

Lost Property, 11:19 a.m., SE Fifth Avenue, Scio. Deputies took a call about lost property.

Lost Property, 12:44 p.m., N Main Street, Scio. Deputy took a report on lost property.

Disturbance, 4:54 p.m., Highway 226, Scio. Neighbor reported hearing a possible disturbance. Verbal argument only.

Disturbance, 7:09 p.m., SW Linn Blvd., Mill City. Non-criminal disturbance. Suspect later turned himself in to Linn County Sheriff’s Office for an unrelated warrant.

Business Check, 8:50 p.m., N Main Street, Scio. Extra patrol of Scio High. Building secure. Minor grass damage where someone drove into the field near baseball diamond.

Noise Disturbance, 10:18 p.m., NW Clayton Place/NW Jefferson-Scio Drive, Scio. Noise disturbance possibly from a passing vehicle.

Traffic Stop, 11:13 p.m., Highway 226/Gilkey Road, Scio. Driver warned for no tail lights.

Feb. 6

Foot Patrol, 12:04 a.m., N Main Street, Scio. Patrol of Scio High. Buildings secure. Nothing suspicious.

Accident, 9:09 a.m., Lyons-Mill City Drive/Fox Valley Road, Lyons. Non-injury accident.

Disturbance, 5:42 p.m., SW Broadway Street, Mill City. Non-criminal disturbance.

Animal Complaint, 6:45 p.m., Kingston-Jordan Road, Scio. Report of deer struck by vehicle. Deputy was unable to locate injured deer.

Disturbance, 7:23 p.m., Mowitch Street, Lyons. Non-criminal disturbance.

Feb. 7

Trespass, 1:24 a.m., Lyons-Mill City Drive, Lyons. Adult female suffering from a mental health episode was given a courtesy ride home.

Domestic Disturbance, 3:49 a.m., SE Fifth Avenue, Mill City. Non-criminal domestic disturbance.

Animal Complaint, 1:25 p.m., Larwood Drive, Scio. Report of stray cattle on caller’s property. Deputy spoke with cow owner and made arrangements to return the cattle home.

Littering Violation, 3:33 p.m., Goar Road, Scio. Caller reported someone dumping a shed. Deputies determined the shed fell off a trailer and was getting picked up.

Traffic Hazard, 6:13 p.m., Stayton-Scio Loop/Stayton-Scio Road, Scio. No vehicles in roadway when deputy drove through.
