John Ernest Blum, 64, died Jan. 23, 2023 of metastatic adrenal cancer.
As the only son of Wilbur and Lela Sandner Blum, John was born and grew up in the Stayton area, but most recently was a resident of Salem, where he worked as a general contractor.
His adventurous spirit led him to scale mountains around the globe, to explore the lands of his Swiss ancestors, and to live and work in Germany and New Zealand.
John enjoyed nature photography and riding his BMW motorcycle. Recently he combined these interests on a two-month long, seven country, motorcycle ride through Africa.
He attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and put his Christian principles into practice as he helped others on a daily basis. John was a pillar of strength and goodness.
John is predeceased by his parents and sister, Marsha. He is survived by his wife, Christine; and sisters, Carla and Doris. Outdoor services will be held in early summer.
