Linn County Sheriff’s Office Log: Oct. 8 – 16

Oct. 8

Traffic Stop, 12:53 a.m., SW Linn Blvd./SW 10th Avenue, Mill City. Driver warned.

Suspicious Vehicle, 8:53 a.m., N McCully Mountain Road, Lyons. Truck out of gas.

Shots Heard, 10:21 a.m., Franklin Butte Road, Scio. Report of shooting in an unsafe direction. Deputy contacted shooter and verified all was safe.

Littering Violation, 1:57 p.m., Hess Road, Scio. Trash dumped on park property. Park staff will clean up when time allows. Follow up will be done to see if any leads exist.

Mental Health, 3:05 p.m., Gilkey Road, Scio. Male with mental health issues calling from the Portland area. Male did not answer on call back.

Suspicious Person, 5:08 p.m., Fish Hatchery Drive/Richardson Gap Road, Scio. Vehicle and operator were pulled over for mechanical issues.

DUII, 5:18 p.m., Gilkey and Kelly roads, Scio.

Traffic Stop, 6:45 p.m., Kingwood Avenue/SW Ivy Street, Mill City. Driver cited for driving uninsured and operating a vehicle without driving privileges.

Trespass, 8:01 p.m., Kingwood Avenue, Gates. Caller reported a female trespassing on her property and leaving notes on her door. Ongoing investigation.

Suspicious Circumstance, 8:32 p.m., Kingwood Avenue, Gates. Caller reported a shop door and light left on that should not be. Deputies checked the property and nothing suspicious was observed.

Traffic Stop, 8:53 p.m., Gates School Road/SE Riverview Street, Gates. Driver warned for lighting violation.

Oct. 9

Welfare Check, 8:37 a.m., SE Ash Street, Scio. Female was alive and stated she was well.

Extra Patrol, 9:09 a.m., NW Beech Street, Scio. Deputies spoke with middle school staff.

Extra Patrol, 9:20 a.m., NW First Avenue, Scio. Deputies spoke with elementary school staff.

Oct. 10

Forest Timber Patrol, 3:09 p.m., Larwood Drive, Scio. Claim had an excavator into the level area and spread hay erosion.

Animal Complaint, 6:27 p.m., Kingston-Jordan Road, Scio. Cow in road was guided back to field by caller.

Missing Person, 8:29 p.m., Lulay Road, Scio. Mountain patrol responded to report of overdue hunter who became lost after getting separated from his grandson. Deputy was able to locate hunter in the forest approximately 300 meters from his vehicle. Male was uninjured but needed assistance getting back to his vehicle.

Weapon Offense, 10:48 p.m., Zurfluh Road, Scio. While assisting above hunter, deputy discovered a hunter’s rifle that had been reported stolen out of Tennessee in 1991. The hunter stated he had never been to Tennessee and bought the rifle locally more than 20 years ago. Ongoing investigation.

Welfare Check, 11:56 p.m., Greenway Drive, Gates. Deputy responded.

Oct. 11

Animal Complaint, 7:45 a.m., Rainbow Drive, Scio. Injured fawn on private property. It was not in distress and was able to walk, run, eat.

Welfare Check, 12:10 p.m., Providence Drive, Scio. Caller checking on male who no longer lives in the area.

Fraud, 3:57 p.m., Richardson Gap Road, Scio. Caller had an unauthorized Verizon account opened in her name. Suspects charged $410.95 using her ID.

Foot Patrol, 6:01 p.m., SW Evergreen Street, Mill City. Deputy conducted foot patrol during Santiam sporting event.

Traffic Stop, 6:43 p.m., Lyons-Mill City Drive/Cedar Mill Road, Lyons. Driver warned for equipment violation.

Park Patrol, 8:09 p.m., SE Fairview Street, Mill City. Kimmel Park.

Out with a Vehicle, 8:25 p.m., NW Santiam Blvd., Mill City. Deputy assisted vehicle with lighting malfunction.

Traffic Stop, 8:51 p.m., N First Avenue/NE Wall Street, Mill City. Driver warned for moving violation.

Traffic Stop, 9:31 p.m., Mowitch Street/Lyons-Mill City Drive, Lyons. Male, 27, of Agnola, Indiana, was arrested for DUII, reckless driving, reckless endangering, contempt of court and a warrant after nearly hitting a deputy’s patrol vehicle. He was also cited for failure to maintain lane, driving uninsured, refusing a BAC test and operating a vehicle without driving privileges. He was lodged at Linn County Jail.

Oct. 12

Assist Other Agency, 1:44 p.m., SE Ash Street, Scio. Assisted County Code Enforcement.

Narcotics Offense, 3:33 p.m., SW Cedar Street, Mill City. Deputies investigated criminal incident.

Traffic Stop, 6:59 p.m., N First Avenue/NW Alder Street, Mill City. Driver warned for moving violation.

Elude, 7:09 p.m., SW Parkside Drive, Mill City. Deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle. Motorcycle did not stop and took off rapidly. Per policy, deputy did not pursue.

Extra Patrol, 8:03 p.m., Mad Creek Road/E Gates Bridge, Gates.

Park Patrol, 10:31 p.m., SE Fairview Street, Mill City. Kimmel Park.

Traffic Stop, 11:02 p.m., N First Avenue, Mill City. Driver warned for moving violation.

Traffic Stop, 11:13 p.m., S First Avenue/SW Cedar Street, Mill City. Driver warned for speed.

Oct. 13

Disturbance, 12:23 a.m., Highway 226/N Main Street, Scio. Deputies responded to possible altercation between two males. Deputies were unable to locate.

Warrant, 5:22 a.m., S First Avenue, Mill City. Female, 20, of Lyons was cited in lieu of custody for an outstanding warrant.

Forest Timber Patrol, 7:06 a.m., Rock Creek Road, Gates.

Mental Health, 7:52 a.m., Ridge Drive, Scio. Ongoing mental health issue.

City Ordinance Violation, 9:16 a.m., SE Juniper Street, Mill City. Deputy delivered court summons for municipal violations.

City Ordinance Violation, 9:54 a.m., NE Alder Street, Mill City. 

Oct. 14

Neighborhood Dispute, 8:42 a.m., SE Cedar Avenue, Gates. Deputy spoke with caller about threatening comments made by their neighbor.

Civil Dispute, 12:48 p.m., Hecht Drive, Scio. Deputy spoke with a citizen about a civil dispute over property.

Motorist Assist, 2:50 p.m., Highway 226, Scio. Vehicle blocking a portion of road. People were watching elk in a nearby field. Requested to do this out of the roadway.

Traffic Stop, 2:57 p.m., Highway 226/McCully Mountain Road, Lyons. Driver warned for speed.

Noise Disturbance, 11:37 p.m., NE Alder Street/NE Third Avenue, Mill City. Deputy drove by the residence and all was quiet.

Suspicious Person, 11:44 p.m., SW Cedar Street, Mill City. Deputies located vehicle and nothing was disturbed. Checked area for suspect but did not locate anyone.

Oct. 15

Accident, 12:50 a.m., NW Alder Street, Mill City. Deputies responded to the report of a crash and discovered property damage. The involved vehicle had already left the area.

Extra Patrol, 11:47 a.m., SE Fairview Street, Mill City.

Foot Patrol, 12:10 p.m., N First Avenue, Mill City. Foot patrol under Mill City Bridge.

Warrant, 12:29 p.m., SW 11th Avenue, Mill City. Male, 47, of Mill City cited in lieu of custody for his Mill City Municipal Court warrant.

Traffic Stop, 2:09 p.m., Richardson Gap Road, Scio. Warned for failure to renew registration.

Suspicious Vehicle, 2:12 p.m., Gilkey Road, Scio. Caller reported suspicious vehicle at neighbor’s property. Vehicle was the property owner’s.

Oct. 16

Juvenile Complaint, 7:36 a.m., Jordan Road, Scio. Deputies responded to Lourdes School regarding concerning behavior of a student.

Identity Theft, 10:13 a.m., Shelburn Drive, Scio. Suspect opened a checking account and acquired a credit card in the victim’s name. No charges were made at the time. Victim is disputing the activity with the bank.

Welfare Check, 11:17 a.m., Stayton-Scio Road, Scio. Person was doing well.

Identity Theft, 2:38 p.m., Shelburn Drive, Scio. Deputies investigated a potential identity theft.

Warrant, 2:58 p.m., S First Avenue, Mill City. Male, 38, of Mill City was arrested on an outstanding warrant and lodged at Linn County Jail.
