Golfers offered sign up discount

The Mike Long Youth Benefit Golf Tournament, set for Sept. 16 at Mallard Creek, is offering discounted signups for local golfers.

Tournament officials say lower-than-expected signups have led them to lower the individual registration fee from $150 to $135. The “early bird” fee will remain in place until Sept. 1, and golfers who sign up by then also will be eligible for a drawing for a new golf bag with irons and woods.

Those who already paid the $150 will be reimbursed upon request.

The tournament is still interested in donations, sponsorships and raffle items. To participate go to ybgolf.com or call 503-949-1252.

The Mike Long event has been renamed for its co-founder, who died in March at the age of 86. During its more than 20 years of operation the event has raised more than $300,000 for scholarships and youth programs.

Tournament proceeds in 2022 paid for $18,500 in scholarships for 13 high school seniors in the Santiam Canyon and kicked in another $17,000 for seven local youth organizations.
